Alan 'Lofty' Moore (1933-1993) was a long time attendee of the Sports Carnival who passed away on 29 November 1993 after a long battle with cancer. Lofty attended 17 of a possible 19 carnivals and represented Adelaide, Melbourne and Moonee Ponds. He only missed the 1953 and 1955 carnivals due to ill health.

He and his contribution to carnivals were well known, having attended his first carnival in 1949 and his last in Perth in 1992.

Prior to his transfer to Melbourne in 1966 Alan worked tirelessly in the Adelaide Office raising money to assist staff attending the sports carnivals.

He holds the distinction of being involved with the organisation of three carnivals (Adelaide 1964, Melbourne 1967 and 1984). His efforts were recognised in 1992 when he was presented with Life Membership and became the inaugural inductee into the Sports Carnival Hall of Fame.

Just before his death Alan donated his collection of carnival badges to Moonee Ponds Social Club who, in discussion with the 1994 Canberra Carnival Committee, decided to mount these badges on a perpetual trophy in Lofty's name. The trophy is awarded to an individual for outstanding achievement across the week.
