Mixed Volleyball Rules

The volleyball competition will be conducted under the rules set down by the Australian Volleyball Federation, except where modified by below.

Event

The is a mixed teams event.

Shield Points

The total Shield Points available will be based on the formula contained in the General Rules.

Format

The volleyball competition will be held as a round robin tournament over 1 day (Sunday) If required teams may be placed into pools.

Each match will be the best of three sets. The first two sets will be first to eighteen points and capped at eighteen.

The third set (if required) will be to fifteen and uncapped. If the score gets to 14 the winner is the team that obtains a two point advantage.

Matches will be decided on the basis of completed sets.

Ladder points

Points will be awarded as follows:

• Win - 3 points

• Draw - 1 points

• Loss - 0 point

In the event of a forfeit the available team shall be awarded the winning points and the score recorded as eighteen – nil (18 – 0).

Each set is forfeited after five minutes therefore after ten minutes the game is forfeited.

In the event of two or more teams finishing with the same number of points, their positions will be determined by sets won minus sets lost in the preliminary rounds.

If still tied, positions will determined on percentage based on points for and against.

Finals

The top teams in each pool at the end of the round robin will contest a finals series.

The grand final will be best of three sets as above but with no time limit.

Rule Modification

There must be six players on the court at any one time. Teams must have a minimum of one female on the court at any one time.

Points are awarded per rally (you don’t have to serve to win the point).

Playing time is limited to thirty minutes per game. Any set which is incomplete at the end of the prescribed time limit shall be counted as a completed set provided one team has reached at least eight points and holds a lead of at least two points.

Matches will be decided on the basis of completed sets.

• All equipment will be provided.

• Teams will be rostered to umpire, score and time keep.​
